What you should know about tires?

No all tires are made equally; they are made for use on the summer, the winter; to ride on snow and ice or for all seasons.
Depending on what you choose, your vehicle may  ride quietly, handle better,  the will last longer, and the car may go faster.
But which one you choose? A more expensive one is the best?

Many factors you want to consider when selecting the best tire for your car.

Size: You must select the proper tire size for your vehicle. Each manufacturer places a label either on the door jam, the glove box, the center console or in the owners manual in which the tire size, speed rating, load rating and proper tire pressure is specified.
You may change the tire size to make your tire wider up to the limit of the wheel allows, but doing so, you MUST also maintain the proper aspect ratio. tire_dimen

How you do that?
The modern tires sizes are specified in metric values, so as an example a tire that measures  195/60R16 can be replaced by a 205/55R16.
This is how it works; 195 equals to the width of the tire, and is expressed in metric so 195 means the width of the tire is 195 millimeters.
Now the aspect ratio, (the ratio is the section high on the picture) in this example we used 60, and this value is not a measurement  but an expression of percentage. 60 means 60% of the width of the tire. So the formula will be 60% of 195 mm = 117 mm. So if we change the width of the tire and we keep the same aspect ratio here are the results, 60% of 205 mm = 123 mm.
This figure represents one section height on the tire, so changing the dimension of the section height or aspect ratio you are changing the overall diameter of the wheel that may result in wrong speed reading on your speedometer, changes on the shifting point on your transmission, rubbing against the inner fender wells and also your car may look stupid.

To change the tires to a wider size the formula is 10 mm up on size minus 5 on the aspect ratio.
On the same example 205/55R16 the aspect ratio will be 112 mm. As you see the formula is not exact but the difference in this case equal to just 4.25 mm or about 1/8 of an inch, a minimal difference to have any impact on the vehicle performance or looks.

If you want to change the size of the rim from 16 inches to 17 inches the formula is a totally different beast, you will need to call us so we can help you with that on that information. Also note that tires size are in metric but the rims dimensions they still use inches; go figure.
